今回の話題は余り面白いものではありませんが、日本のみなさんに香港市場で行われている他社のやり方について少しお話しさせて頂きます。

“旅の恥は掻き捨て”と言う言葉がありますが、海外でなら何をしても良い、と考える競合もあるようで、先日、このようなことがありました。

現場は我々が非常に懇意にしている設計が管理する物件ですが、我々の材料をオーナーにご覧頂くために現場でノミネートされている材料を使用した試験施工を行いました。実際試験施工は順調に終了しましたが、その終了の翌日、我々の試験施工の面が白い液体状のもので汚されていました。我々のSV（スーパーバイザー）が発見し報告した後、その白い汚れの表面を濡れタオルで擦ってみると、白い汚れを全て綺麗に取り除くことが出来ました。つまり、この白い汚れは材料の品質から発生したことではなく、何者かが我々の試験施工の表面にこっそりと白い液体を流し落としたのです。

無論、直ぐに設計やオーナーに報告し、全ての関係者が、この行為は我々の試験施工に損害を与え、関西ペイントに対して不当な結果を招くことを意図してやられたものだと頓悟しました。

警察への通報も考えましたが、設計やオーナーへご迷惑がかかることも考慮し、悔しながら　今回は断念しました。

我々は最近急激に売り上げを伸ばしてきており、それを面白くなく思っている競合がいるのも確かですし、我々の有りもしない噂（例えば我々の材料の虚偽のクレーム情報）を流す競合もいます。日本であればこれらは厳然とした犯罪行為であり、厳しく処罰される対象となりますが、残念ながらここ香港では、先述の“旅の恥は搔き捨て”で、倫理観を持たない行為をする競合もいるようです。

もちろん、我々はこのような妨害行為には負けませんが、このような卑劣で稚拙な行為をする競合に対しては、今後本社国際事業部や本社法務部も交えて法的な対応も含め、考えていかなければなりません。

We have to deliver an unhappy topic about our competitors in the market, and the subject to be talked about may seem very unbelievable for Japanese people.

In Japan, there is a saying, “Once over the border, one may do anything.”

Not long ago, we have finished our visual mock-up (VMU) showcasing our proposed products on-site to our friendly clients and owner in hopes of getting their nomination. Our VMU was done to our perfection and everybody was satisfied with the way it turned out.

However, soon as we finished the VMU, a streak of white line mark was found on our on-site sample the next day. Our site supervisor just by the chance visited there for final checking and discovered such strange white mark. He was able to wipe the white mark off the surface easily, which means the mark did not come originally from our products or the substrate, but rather someone intentionally attached the substance onto our sample to damage our finishing.

We have immediately informed such case to our clients and the owner, and all have recognized that this has been done by someone who would want to ruin our VMU.

We have considered to report to the police, but on second thought we decided not to do so, as we do not want to create any nuisance to our client and owner.

Recently, Kansai Paint has been occupying more and more share in the market, and some of our competitors do not like it. Sometimes, they may attempt to ruin our reputation by misconduct such as spreading false rumors. If this act of vandalism had taken place in Japan, it would have been a legal criminal case with severe punishment once proven guilty. Due to the seriousness, competitors will never take the risk. As aforesaid, “once over the border, one may do anything”. Some ill-behaved companies and their staff may do things immorally.

Needless to say, we are not going to simply surrender to such unfair treatment. We will consider appropriate action under the instructions of International Division and Legal Department.
